“Next week, I will introduce the Georgian Nightmare Non-Recognition Act, which will prohibit U.S. recognition of the illegal dictatorial regime in Georgia and recognize Salome Zourabichvili as the only legitimate leader in Georgia until such a time as free and fair elections are held,” Joe Wilson wrote on Platform X.
The congressman previously invited Salome Zourabichvili to Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Joe Wilson, currently being considered for the position of Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, has been actively urging the State Department to impose sanctions on Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of the Georgian Dream party. Additionally, he has already introduced the MEGOBARI Act, which would provide the State Department with enhanced tools to impose visa restrictions and financial sanctions on individuals who undermine Georgia’s democracy or engage in repressive actions against Georgian citizens.
