The exact cause of death of the 27-year-old athlete is still unknown.
Nugzar Tsurtsumia became the world champion at the age of 22, in 2019, at the championship held in Kazakhstan. It should be noted that in Greco-Roman wrestling, the Georgian Palavan won the gold medal for the first time in 12 years.
Nugzar Tsurtsumia also won silver and bronze medals at the World Championship. Additionally, he was a silver and bronze medalist at the European Championship.
In 2022, the World Wrestling Federation ranked Nugzar Tsurtsumia fourth in the world among Greco-Roman wrestlers in the 55 kg weight category.
