"The patient was admitted this morning, around 6:30 AM. He was transferred from another clinic, and his condition upon arrival was quite severe, as clinically there were signs of traumatic-hemorrhagic shock. At this moment, his condition shows positive dynamics, as the degree of shock has decreased, hemodynamic parameters are more or less restored, he is on life support, and he is receiving the medical measures outlined in the protocol," Ratiani stated.
Mikheil Sarjveladze, Georgian Dream's Minister of Health, also commented to journalists from the First University Clinic. According to him, Rizhvadze has one wound and "only the lung is damaged."
"Mr. Rizhvadze was admitted to the Sagarejo clinic late last night. He sustained a severe injury, a gunshot wound. Accordingly, emergency measures were taken, and a surgical operation was performed on-site. All necessary procedures were carried out to restore vital parameters.
He is currently in the intensive care unit, as these are very severe traumas for the body, which is the case here. [...] It was a very difficult, shocking, perhaps even appalling, event for everyone, and doctors are doing everything to preserve his health," Mikheil Sarjveladze said.
Former Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili also visited the First University Clinic.
Today, July 7, it became known that the former chairman of the Adjara government was admitted to GeoHospitals clinic in Sagarejo with a gunshot wound to the chest.
An investigation into the incident has been launched under suspicion of inciting suicide. Aleksi Akhvlediani, director of the Maritime Transport Agency, has been detained on charges of negligent storage of a weapon. Investigative actions are underway at Akhvlediani's home in Sagarejo.
Government-affiliated propaganda media disseminated information suggesting that Rizhvadze had written a letter before his alleged suicide attempt, which medical personnel reportedly found in his clothes. According to TV Imedi, Rizhvadze expresses hope in the letter that Bidzina Ivanishvili will protect his family.
The authenticity of the letter has not been established. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has not made a statement on this matter. Medical institutions where the former Georgian Dream senior official was admitted do not confirm passing the letter to the media.
Tornike Rizhvadze, 36, served as chairman of the Adjara government for almost 7 years, from July 21, 2018, to April 4, 2025. In 2021, he also became a member of Georgian Dream's political council. After his resignation, Rizhvadze was expelled from the political council.
