"Yesterday, Moldovans took a crucial step forward on our European path. But the fight for democracy in Moldova - and across our region - continues. To the people of Georgia: I admire your resilience and determination to build a free, European future. Stand strong— Moldova is with you," Sandu wrote on Platform X.
Earlier, the President of Georgia congratulated Maia Sandu on her victory, saying, "Your victory is our victory." Salome Zourabcshvili wrote on X that the elections in Moldova serve as the strongest "evidence" of the stolen elections in Georgia.
"Despite similar Russian interference and massive rigging, Moldova was saved by 300.000 diaspora voters… our 1000.000 strong diaspora was barred. only 34 000 were “allowed” to vote," Zourabichvili said.
As per data from the Central Election Commission of Moldova, after counting 99.86% of the votes, the incumbent President, Maia Sandu, has won the second round of the presidential election in Moldova with 55.3% of the vote, while her opponent, Alexander Stoianoglo, a representative of the pro-Russian party and former prosecutor general, has 44.7%. The pro-European president’s lead was secured by the votes of Moldovans living abroad. On election day, Moldova's national security advisor, Stanislav Secrieru, announced "massive interference" in the electoral process by Russia.
