The de facto government of occupied Abkhazia and representatives of the so-called opposition are conducting negotiations. As Adgur Ardzinba, leader of the People's Movement of Abkhazia, stated, their sole demand is the resignation of President Aslan Bzhania and the holding of early presidential elections.

Adgur Ardzinba briefed the protesters gathered in front of the de facto parliament about the current situation. According to him, Aslan Bzhania is attempting to spread disinformation to the strategic partner (Russia), claiming that a coup d'état has taken place in Abkhazia, orchestrated by pro-Turkish, pro-Western forces.
"At the moment, he is sitting and calling Moscow with such an agenda. This is an absolute lie. Last night, we made a final effort and met with members of parliament, urging them to remove this issue, which concerns our entire society, from the agenda so that the people could calm down. Our proposal was ignored. Moreover, today, when we gathered near the parliament building, we asked the parliament to hold a session and remove this issue from the agenda. The main idea, the main message, was that presidential elections should be held in a few months. No one standing here wanted things to turn out the way they did. That’s why we warned the president to withdraw his anti-national initiative, go to the elections, and see if the people would support him," said Adgur Ardzinba.
According to the leader of the so-called opposition, Aslan Bzhania, over the last two and a half years, he has refused any dialogue and called opposition members extremists.
"Despite this, we tried to convey to the authorities that the situation could become uncontrollable, that it was not our concern, and we wanted to reach the elections peacefully.
What happened next, you all know: the deputies could not gather in sufficient numbers to hold a session, the president ignored the well-founded proposals of the public, and the situation escalated.
Now, at this stage, a group of deputies has been formed and sent to the president with a single request - the resignation of the president and the holding of early elections. We are currently waiting for a response. We ask for this so that the situation does not worsen. We are hopeful that those who went to the negotiations will return with a positive answer," said Ardzinba.
Aslan Bzhania's term as the so-called president expires in the spring of 2025.
